Whenever we’re not busy getting caught up in today’s F1 driver or constructor rivalries, we tend to reflect on where Formula 1 might be headed and what these cars might look like in the near future.
Luckily for us, Ferrari thought it was time to break the ice and share their vision for what a Formula 1 car should look like. This rendering isn’t just a design exercise though. Ferrari drew up this car in collaboration with their F1 aerodynamics department – and the resulting striking design elements are meant to do just one thing, make it go even faster.
Yet the design really is striking, isn’t it? The double-decker front wing is fascinating, as is the more sculpted body (without as many exposed bits) of the car or the wider and lower than usual rear wing.
Also, there’s going to be a meeting of the F1 commission in Geneva today, where future F1 rules are going to be discussed as well as possibly doing a design overhaul on the cars. If this will indeed be suggested, there will be no doubt those who will resist change.
The rules revolution should revolve around the notion that F1 cars should be faster, harder to drive and better looking – yet if we’re being honest, the latter part shouldn’t be as important. Still, we think this rendering is awesome, even though we do have some issues with it.
For example, those wheels look like they’d be a pain in the ass to change during pit stops.
