General Motors recently filed a patent for the name “Badlands” which has been suggested could be used as a performance moniker for its Ford F-150 Raptor-fighting truck. It could very well just be a different paint and trim package version that has nothing to do with extra performance, though – it’s pure speculation at the moment.
What is clear is that GM really needs to step up its game and offer a Raptor rival. The Ford is currently in a class of its own and can only really be challenged by other brands if their vehicles incur heavy modifications beforehand.
It would have to be a Silverado-based vehicle, to be comparable in size to the F-150, but it may very well be a smaller model, as well. GM showed off the Colorado ZR2 concept (pictured) not long ago, and Badlands wouldn’t be an inappropriate name for a production version of that at all.
