Picking apart Acura’s crossover naming strategy doesn’t seem that hard. We have the RDX, MDX and now it looks like we’re going to have a smaller CDX according to a recent report.
AutoGuide reports that Honda filed a patent for the name on February 11 and it’s said to cover “automobiles and their structural parts.”
The source suggests the model is very likely to be an Acura version of the new HR-V small (Honda-badged) crossover.
If made, it would go up against the likes of the MINI Countryman, Buick Encore or the Mercedes GLA and Audi Q3. That’s a busy sector and it will undoubtedly be very difficult to make an attractive vehicle.
Also, while not a bad looking vehicle itself, we hope Acura gives the proposed CDX unique styling based on what it’s currently making – it could end up being its best looking crossover, since it seems planted and well proportioned in Honda guise.
