The Daimler SP250 is a pretty interesting vehicle, especially for one we rarely hear of, if ever. It wasn’t perfect right after launch, but it got better as the series progressed – Jay Leno has one of the later cars, a 1962 model, and he’s just finished restoring and enhancing it.
The car has a rather unique 2.5-liter Hemi V8 that pumps out close to 200 hp with the new carb that Jay’s had fitted – originally, the engine made around 140 hp. He’s also adapted a modern five-speed gearbox to the engine and also gave the car new brakes and a better steering rack from a period Jag.
Probably the most unique aspect about this car, aside from its slightly droopy face and amusing small fins at the back, is the way it sounds. The engine note is like that of a larger American V8, but this one just has its own unique twist – those in the know can probably easily tell it apart from others by noise alone.
