Whether you prefer to think that all these results are inconclusive or rather that timed laps do indeed matter during pre-season testing, you can’t really ignore Ferrari’s dominance so far.
Scuderia Ferrari have claimed the fastest time during the first two Jerez sessions, while yesterday it was the Ferrari-powered Sauber of Felipe Nasr taking top honors.
Today’s “winner” was Kimi Raikkonen, pulling through with a 1:20.841s time, while managing to do no fewer than 106 laps around the track. That’s 12 more than he did yesterday.
Second fastest car was a Sauber, only this time with Marcus Ericsson behind the wheel, doing a 1:22.019 and completing 112 laps. Pre-season or not, that Ferrari engine looks very reliable.
Current F1 world-champion Lewis Hamilton was 3rd fastest with a time of 1:22.172 but he did manage to run the most laps at 117.
The teams will take the next couple of weeks to regroup before testing resumes in Barcelona on February 19-22. Force India is expected to join the rest of the pack as well, but only between February 26 – March 1st, also in Barcelona.
