A Porsche Panamera reportedly caught fire in a garage attached to a house in Moscow, Russia, and now the owners are suing the German carmaker.
The owners of the car and house, Roman and Svetlana Martynenko, said they woke up at night to the smell of fire and ran to the garage..
“I tried to get into the garage through the door, but I couldn’t open it,” Roman Martynenko told Life News. “I had to break it open, and then I saw the burning car. There were strong flames coming from under the hood. Just behind the wall, there was a gas boiler and a gas outlet – if any of these exploded, there would be nothing left,” he said.
After an unsuccessful attempt to contain the flames, the couple called the fire department, which was able to put out the blaze, but not before it destroyed the car and part of their home.
It’s reported that the Martynenko family brought in an independent expert who arrived to the conclusion that a short circuit in the engine compartment of the Panamera caused the fire.
Roman Martynenko, who says he is a regular customer of the brand and “personally acquainted” with Wolfgang Porsche, Porsche AG shareholder and the youngest son of Ferdinand Porsche, contacted the manufacture and shared the expert’s opinion, but claims that company representatives completely ignored his complaint. Porsche said that it’s unaware of any cases of Panamera fires anywhere in the world adding that their own experts were not admitted to the examination.
The couple is now suing Porsche for nearly 100 million Rubles, which amounts to about $1.5 million or €1.35 million at today’s rates.
