Our spies have snapped up what appears to be a Dacia Sandero that crashed into a shed full of Renault RS bits and some stuck to it. It’s got a sporty steering wheel, a six-speed gear kob and a seat with plenty of lateral support for the driver.
What does this mean? Well, it means Dacia will be shortly unveiling a more driver-oriented variant of the Sandero. It probably won’t be called an RS, although the Romanian brand has no sporty monikers of its own to use, so they’ll probably make one up.
As far as power options for the car, a strong candidate is the 1.2-liter turbo Renault already uses in several of its cars, including the warm Clio GT. However, in the Clio it’s hooked up to a dual-clutch transmission as the only option, yet the mule you see below has a manual box with a six-speed knob on it.
No Sandero is currently sold with a six-speed manual, although the Lodgy is, and it’s the only Dacia that currently uses the 1.2-liter turbo. In the Lodgy it puts out 113 hp, while in the Clio that’s bumped up to 118 hp.
Additional sporty bits worth mentioning are the 17-inch Clio RS wheels, disk brakes at the back and a slightly chopped looking dual exhaust at the back. The series model will get its own bespoke rim design, different bumpers and in true Renault tradition, a checkered flag sticker of some sort…
