Demand for the new Skoda Fabia hatchback and Combi is really strong, which is why the Czech carmaker has already announced it increased production at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav.
The facility also produces the Rapid Spaceback, for which production has also been boosted. Skoda now builds 1,200 Fabia, Fabia Combi and Rapid Spaceback models each day in three shifts, compared to 800 units that were previously built daily in two shifts. To staff the third shift, Skoda has created 800 new jobs.
Skoda operates two production lines in Mladá Boleslav. The Fabia, Fabia Combi and Rapid Spaceback are built on the MBII line, while the Octavia, Octavia Combi and Rapid sedan run off the other line.
“The young ŠKODA model range is doing exceptionally well on the market. Our production is at full throttle – especially at our main plant in Mladá Boleslav. Over the coming years, ŠKODA plans to increase sales to at least 1.5 million per year. To this end, we will continue to invest in our domestic and international production capacities,” said Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda Production Director.
Skoda says the Fabia’s market launch was extremely successful, with the company seeing strong demand for its new supermini. As for the Rapid Spaceback, the model sold 72,000 units worldwide in 2014, its first full year on the market, with demand still going strong.
