They call it an Egg, a Hidden Easter Egg and you can find it by entering the diagnostics mode on the Tesla Model S’ center console touchscreen and typing ‘007’ when prompted for a security code.

Once you do that, you’ll be surprised to see that you’re actually driving the famous 1976 Lotus Esprit S1 submersible from “The Spy Who Loved Me” with Roger Moore in the role of James Bond – well not in reality, but in virtual reality.

Another cheeky Hidden Egg in the menu is a reference to Jules Verne’s novel “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea” in the suspension controls.

Tesla and Lotus go back a while, from the time when the Palo Alto, California-based company came to life building the all-electric Roadster based on the Lotus Elise. No doubt, Tesla founder Elon Musk’s ownership of the actual (not functional) prop Lotus Elise S1 from the movie also played a role in the placement of the car in the Model S’ secret diagnostic mode.
