The second-generation VW Sharan has received mild styling updates and significal technical tweaks for its first facelift, with the official presentation to take place at the Geneva Motor Show.
The most important change is the all-new engine lineup, consisting of diesel and petrol units that are up to 15 percent more economical and comply with the Euro-6 standard. The facelifted Sharan will be available with two new TSI engines, a 1.4-liter producing 150PS (148hp) and a 2.0-liter developing 220PS (217hp).
The three new TDI units have a 2.0-liter capacity and produce 115PS (113hp), 150PS (148hp) and 184PS (181hp). All engines, except the smallest diesel, can be combined with a six-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG), which now offers a coasting function for additional fuel-saving (decoupling of the engine during deceleration). The DSG transmission is standard with the top 220PS engine. As an alternative, the 150PS TDI engine is also available with 4Motion all-wheel drive.
The Sharan also gets the second generation modular infotainment platform, available with either the 5-inch “Composition Colour” system or the 6.5-inch systems “Composition Media” or “Discover Media” (with navigation). MirrorLink, CarPlay (Apple), and Android Auto (Google) are offered as options.
New driver assistance systems include the standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking system, the optional Front Assist ambient traffic monitoring system, the integrated City Emergency Braking function and, for the first time, the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system (optional).
Styling-wise, the changes are very discreet and include a new LED light signature at the rear, the addition of new 16-inch Jakarta alloy wheels and of two new body colors, “Hudson Bay Blue Metallic” and “Crimson Red Metallic.”
The cabin has also been refreshed and has received new dial graphics in the instrument cluster and a new steering wheel. VW offers three new trim designs which upgrade the dashboard and the door trim: Platinum Silver (Trendline), Piano Black (Highline) and Mirror Oak (optional for Comfortline and Highline). Additionally, the Sharan can be ordered with Vienna leather that features an exclusive embossed diamond pattern.
Advance sales of the new Sharan will begin in April in Germany, with the vehicle launching in Europe in July.
