Still some years off (two namely), the 2018 BMW 3-Series is shaping up to be better than ever. The desire within BMW is to deliver a more compelling proposition for their most important image-building model.
Now AutoBild has shared with us some of the bits and pieces of information it has on the upcoming all-new car. Firstly, the styling will evolve, though not drastically change, and cues to look out for are a generally sharper style and more differentiation between variants and trims (a trend already started).
It will also be lighter than the current car, using the new CLAR platform, which stands for Cluster Architecture, the same one used to underpin the 5- and 7-Series models. Apparently, it will allow for more passenger space and shorter front overhang.
Engines wise, yep, it’s going to get a three-cylinder 136 PS turbo in the base petrol versions. There’s even going to be a diesel three-cylinder on offer, the same 122 PS unit that powers the MINI Cooper D. The range will be complimented by four- and six-cylinder units, though, all of which will be turbocharged.
BMW will also probably make more than one electrified versions of the 3-Series, and the M3/M4 versions would see their power upped around the 500 PS mark.
We should expect to see the car debut or at least shown in close-to-production concept form in and around the year 2017.
