Capturing movement in a still of any kind, whether it be a photo or painting, or any manner of medium, really, makes it much easier for said image to tell a story. Artist Alex Wakefield tells motorsport-inspired stories through his paintings, and this recently got him noticed and on Petrolicious.
As you’ll undoubtedly have figured out, the main source of Alex’s passion are old racing instances, seems like mostly from the days of analog motorsport. His latest project is called “Go Fever” and it’s simply about the Ferrari vs Ford duels that took place at Le Mans in the 1960s; he plans to continue this project into 2015.
His paintings should be featured and be the main support for a course on how to capture movement into still frames because they epitomize the idea. Each and every one of them is brilliant and it shows so many subtle nuances to his technique (not all paintings look the same, but the same style does tie them in nicely; you can tell they’re by the same author).
