So, what have we learned after watching the three-headed comparison put together by XCar which pitted a front-wheel drive car against rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive to see how they cope in low-grip conditions?
Well, we’ve learned that with the electronics switched on, they all do a fairly good job of keeping you on the road, with the obvious subtleties brought about by the different drive destinations.
The cars they lined up were a Subaru Impreza hatch, a BMW 120d and a Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy. Out of all the cars it seemed that the Renault had the most trouble going where it was pointed, a tendency made worse without electronic aid.
It was the liveliest of the bunch, but to me the most impressive was the BMW which performed very well for what it is. Being rear-wheel drive doesn’t necessarily mean snappy behavior any more, and the 120d looked clean and composed throughout.
