Apparently, we weren’t the only ones to notice the exterior styling similarities between Lincoln’s new Continental Concept and the Bentley Flying Spur; so did Bentley’s Chief Designer Luc Donckerwolke and he wasn’t happy…
“I would have called it Flying Spur concept and kept the four round lights,” Donckerwolke sardonically wrote on his Facebook page, according to Road&Track. “I thought this was only done in China? Finally a ‘Bentley for the masses’ though,” responded another designer in the comments.
Donckerwolke didn’t stop there, as he reportedly posted a sarcastic question on Lincoln Design Director David Woodhouse’s Facebook page, though it was promptly removed: “Do you want us to send the product tooling?”
Bentley’s design boss was far from done, as he spoke to Car Design News: “This behavior is not respectable. Building a copy like this is giving a bad name to the car design world.”
The British brand’s exterior design chief, Sangyup Lee, agreed describing the Lincoln as “a joke,” and adding, “It is very disappointing, especially for an exclusive brand like Lincoln.”
Things could get very…interesting / heated between the two brands and their designers at the New York Auto Show where Lincoln will host the world premiere of their Continental Concept.
What’s your take?
