VW’s concept debut for the 2015 Geneva Motor Show is the Sport Coupe GTE, a sleek looking sports saloon that was designed to slot between the existing Passat and Phaeton.
Based on the German group’s modular MQB platform, the Sport Coupe GTE Concept utilizes a plug-in-hybrid powertrain combining a 3.0-liter V6 TSI gasoline engine with an electric motor that acts on the rear axle. Total system output is 380PS (374hp), with the concept hitting 100km/h (62mph) from standstill in 5.2 seconds before topping out at 250km/h (155mph).
Volkswagen said that the study has a pure-electric driving range of 50 km (31 miles) and an overall range of around 1,000km or about 620 miles, returning a combined economy of 2l/100km (117.6 mpg US or 141.2 mpg UK).
The concept car is 191.7 inches (4,869mm) long with an impressive wheelbase of 118.9 inches (3,020mm), creating an interior that is 73.7 inches (1,872mm) long. It has short body overhangs at 35.8 inches (909mm) front and 44.1 inches (1,120mm) at the back, while it’s 55.4 inches (1,407mm) tall and 73.4 inches (1,864mm) wide.
Further details will be released during the concept’s world premiere in Geneva on Tuesday.
