The news broke yesterday, Chrysler is leaving UK from 2017 due to slow sales and an uninviting model range.
FCA UK will focus instead into the revived Jeep and the rest of its brands, which include Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Abarth. Chrysler’s range was deemed too unappealing for the UK audience and that’s not a surprise given that it basically contained only three models, after the demise of the rebadged Lancia Delta last year.
The other three were the 300C, the Grand Voyager and the rebadged Lancia Ypsilon. Chrysler is no longer offering the first two with the Ypsilon supermini to be sold upon order only for the remaining time the American brand operates in the UK. Jeep and Alfa Romeo dealerships will now live under the same roof.
After a few really difficult years, Chrysler’s sales dropped below 2.000 units last year, more than 21% down than the 2013’s results and the decision was unavoidable. FCA is also still pulling Lancia out of the other European countries, with Italy to be the only one to offer the Ypsilon in the public.
The UK arm will now focus in the much more competitive Jeep with the new Renegade being currently launched and an upcoming Qashqai rival to be unveiled later plus in preparing for the future Fiat and Alfa Romeo models.
