We had a hard time cracking this one, but our intel tells us that this prototype model is Citroen’s upcoming replacement for their Chinese-market C4 or C-Quatre.
The fact that our spies spotted the compact sedan undergoing winter tests in Sweden could mean that Citroen is mulling a European launch as a rival to low-cost models from Dacia, or simply that the French firm wanted its engineers to hone the car on European soil – we can’t say for sure at this point.
PSA’s Chinese venture Dongfeng-Citroen currently offers the C-Quatre, which is based on the first generation Citroen C4’s running gear, alongside three more sedans in the local market, the C4L, C5 and Elysee.
While heavily camouflaged, the prototype doesn’t carry Citroen’s latest adventurous design language and instead has a rather simple styling.
The new C-Quatre is expected to launch in China before the end of the year with a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine fitted with start-stop technology as standard.
