Participants in the UK Renault Clio Cup Championship have just got another reason to chase the title, which involves a chance to get behind the wheel of the 500bhp RS01 race car.
This will be in addition to the test provided from the BTCC’s Motorbase Performance racing team as another prize to the Clio Cup future champion.
The R.S.01 racing program is about a single model championship to take place in Europe as part of the Renaultsport’s World Series events’ package. The race car itself uses a modified twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 Nissan GT-R engine, tuned to produce about 500bhp.
While the dream of seeing the R.S.01 spawning a true performance road car is still out of the question, it’s certainly one of the coolest racers out there.
“Being able to confirm tests in R.S.0.1 and also with BTCC team Motorbase brings even more kudos to being crowned 2015 Renault UK Clio Cup Champion” said Renault-UK Clio Cup Championship Manager Will Fewkes.
The UK Clio Cup Series will support the British Touring Car Championship events, consisting of 18 rounds with 2015 to be the 16th consecutive year the one-make racing series exists. Being one of the most competitive and exciting track championships out there, the Clio Cup is ready to kick off with the first event to be hosted at Brands Hatch the first weekend of April.
Xavier Gonzalez, Renaultsport’s Sporting Manager said: “It is important to look at how many top names from the UK Clio Cup and the ‘Renault family’ have graduated very successfully into both touring cars and international GT competition.”
“The UK Clio Cup is Britain’s best single-model saloon car championship without a doubt. Indeed its top drivers have often shone in tests in our previous silhouette racers and it will be very interesting to see how the 2015 UK Clio Cup Champion performs in R.S.01”.
