New details on Jeremy Clarkson’s suspension suggest the Top Gear host threw a punch at a longtime assistant producer of the show because he didn’t get dinner after a long day of filming.
A source told the Mirror Clarkson “snapped” at 36-year-old Oisin Tymon, a producer on the show since 2008, on March 4 after “not getting him dinner in time” after a day filming in Newcastle.
The source elaborated:
“Jeremy saw red over a catering issue. He just snapped. “They came to the end of filming after a long day and Jeremy discovered that no food had been laid on. “He just saw red and hit the assistant producer, who he blamed for not having organised the food. He snapped.”
The Mirror reports the local police was not notified of the incident. Clarkson was suspended from the BBC and Top Gear Tuesday following what the network called the “fracas” the previous week.
Top Gear‘s final three episodes of the current series have been postponed, leaving the future of the show in question.
Meanwhile, all the Top Gear presenters broke their silence on Twitter Tuesday evening, starting with James May.
No Top Gear this weekend, apparently. How about 633 Squadron instead? @JeremyClarkson @RichardHammond

@MrJamesMay @RichardHammond I did some pretty good war documentaries. They could screen one of those.
