Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is reportedly considering a new pair of SUVs larger than the Fiat 500X/Jeep Renegade duo. The larger models are said to be based on the same platform and will compete with vehicles like the Nissan Qashqai.
The fact that Jeep will build a new C-segment SUV is not news though, as we have known for some time that the brand would be launching in 2016 a replacement for the Patriot and Compass models.
These are all the known details so far, but besides the compact SUV, new information about Fiat’s upcoming lineup has emerged. Future plans also include an SUV smaller than the Fiat 500X, which would eventually replace the Panda Cross. If built, it will also have a Jeep version.
Furthermore, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne is said to consider back-to-basics C-segment hatchback and estate models, which will replace the Bravo. The models will use the same platform as the 500L MPV and will be built in Turkey, where labor costs are lower.
According to sources cited by Autocar, the new C-segment models will be “very well priced.” Some rumors say Fiat will use the Panda badge for the Bravo replacement, turning the Panda family into a budget sub-brand.
Finally, Fiat will also get a range-topping model, the 124 Spider which will essentially be a rebadged Mazda MX-5.
