It’s not everyday that you get to go back to when you were just a kid, admiring somebody’s Sierra Cosworth. We’re truly glad Ford decided to bring this car to Geneva this year.
This is, in a lot of ways, a real life time machine. You can get in it, and it will take you back to mid-late 80s and what it was like to drive a hot hatch back then. Of course, some got to drive hot Fords later on as well, such as the Escort Cosworth or the XR2 Fiesta (the MK2 was the best by the way), but nothing could match the Sierra Cosworth’s cult classic status.
By the way, soon after they started making it, 500 of the total 5,545 RS Cosworths manufactured were sent off to be converted into the RS500 Cosworth (which you can also check out in the photo gallery).
The RS500 version had a larger turbocharger, a better fuel pump, an additional lower spoiler besides the whale tail, RS500 badges and a few other mods, making it an even better performance model.
But since we’re here to talk about the original car, the one shown in Geneva, we’re going to inevitably mention the fact that it had a whooping 204 PS and 277 Nm (204 lb-ft) of torque, while weighing just 1,220 kg.
With all said and done, it could get from 0 to 62 mph (100km/h) in just 6.8 seconds, which at the time was just 1.5 seconds off the pace of a Ferrari Testarossa!
