You may be thinking that the age of crazy racing cars with silly wings was in the late 1970s, but you’re wrong. We’re living it and proof is Honda’s 2015 IndiCar entry, a mad-mad-looking thing that seems to have been inspired by a WWI triplane, but inverted…

We actually don’t mind it and think it’s a welcome infusion of personality in a sport where the cars being even is such a big thing.

Honda won’t always use this aero kit, as it’s been designed for road courses and short ovals (“RC/SO”) and as Road&Track says, it really looks like it was inspired from the very latest Formula 1 cars.

That’s not surprising as Honda had help in the creation of the kit from a former F1 chassis designer, Nick Wirth and his entire UK-based research firm.

The aero kit costs around $75,000 and it’s made up of over 100 separate pieces, although you don’t have to have all of the kit on the car all of the time; you can add just certain bits depending on the requirements.

It’s not the only unique aero kit to debut this season, as Chevrolet also has one of its own. It’s nowhere near as dramatic as the Honda one, though, and we should see the two side by side as the season starts on March 29.
