Lincoln has talked a lot in recent years about revitalizing its brand, but the clearest sign yet could come in the form of something called the 2017 Lincoln Continental.
Users over at Blue Oval Forum found a link to a future site for the Continental Concept and hints of a 2017 Lincoln Continental under “future vehicles.”
Carscoops reader Jordan B. tipped us off earlier that Lincoln would show a concept next week at the New York Auto Show, and it’s tipped to be a preview of this Continental.
Lincoln has previously used the Continental nameplate on a 2002 concept, with a V12 engine and suicide doors. That, ironically, was the last year the name was used on a production model.
A Continental is likely to be a sedan model in Lincoln’s lineup, possibly a rear-wheel drive model to either replace the Taurus-based MKS sedan or to slot above it. Consider, though, that Lincoln doesn’t have a rear-wheel drive platform in its current lineup other than the Navigator full-size SUV.
Lincoln has yet to make a formal announcement, but we should know more in the next few days.
