A photo posted on a Korean automotive source which was later picked up by IndianAutosBlog, purportedly portrays what is believed to be the next Hyundai Elantra, the 2016 MY.
We’re not so sure that’s an accurate description of the photo, since it just look so eerily similar to shots of the revised i40, the larger-sized sedan destined for the Euro market.
The source article suggests that the similarity is not accidental and that, obviously, the new Elantra has been given the family face, which debuted on the i40 late last year (shown in the two latter photos below).
Either way, it’s better looking than the outgoing Elantra, which I think was quite anonymous looking, particularly for something that was trying so hard to be stylish. This new one is more restrained and grown up-looking and will probably have broader appeal.
The new Elantra is said to debut in Korea next month, with a range of frugal four-pot petrol and diesel engines, a new seven-speed dual-clutch and/or a six-speed manual.
