The Special Vehicle Operations Unit at Jaguar Land Rover has turned out some interesting modifications of existing products, but they could soon branch out to making interesting vehicles of their own.
According to Bloomberg, JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations might start producing vehicles that have no normal equivalent, as the Range Rover Sport SVR and F-Type Project 7 have. That would take a page out of the Mercedes AMG playbook with the recent AMG GT.
While the special vehicles aren’t expected to ever contribute more than 10 percent to JLR’s overall sales, according to the department’s leader John Edwards, the potential for profit is hard to ignore. And a halo car for the division would likely lend more prestige to performance versions of the company’s other vehicles.
Although if you ask me, the Special Vehicle Operations team has its work cut out trying to make something more, um… special, than an F-Type or really fast Range Rover Sport.
