A bespoke version of Koenigsegg’s Agera R has been sitting in a warehouse in China for more than two years after Chinese authorities impounded it due to smuggling accusations.
The unique blue carbon Koenigsegg was on its way to meet its lucky owner in China when the Chinese customs seized the car, after finding out that the import tax was never paid. China is well known for its huge import taxes and when it comes to cars like this, they can reach as much as 100% of the original value of the car, sending the already huge price tag into stratospheric levels.
According to the CarNewsChina, the Koenigsegg Agera R BLT is estimated at $4.7 million, with the import tax included. The 1124hp hypercar has been sitting in a warehouse, collecting dust and misery since October 2012, but will reportedly head to an auction sometime in the first quarter of 2015.
The original owner, a Chinese businessman, declined to participate in that auction, with rumors saying that he already purchased a LaFerrari to fill the gap in its garage, although this time he preferred the legit way, with taxes paid and all.
While we all crave a unique masterpiece like this, we only tremble at the thought of what these two-and-a-half years of forced hibernation in a shady Chinese warehouse might have done to it.
