There’s already a very hot version of the second-gen Range Rover Sport, the 550PS (542hp) SVR, but Land Rover wants to fill the gaps in its range (pun intended) with a warmer HST model.
The 2016 Range Rover Sport HST comes with an uprated version of the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine (shared with the Jaguar F-Type S) delivering an additional 40PS (40hp) over the existing SE and HSE models at 380PS (375hp).
We’ll have to wait for next week’s 2015 New York Auto Show where the new HST special edition will make its world premiere for information on acceleration and top speed figures.
Land Rover says that it has also made changes to the suspension for “reduced body roll and enhanced agility”, with the HST also gaining bigger brakes with 20-inch discs, a single-range transmission and a tweaked version of the Terrain Response set-up.
Besides the mechanical updates, the HST gets a light makeover on the outside with 21-inch alloy wheels in an exclusive to this model dark sating grey finish, red brake calipers, smoked lights, a rear spoiler, a Santorini Black contrast roof, sculpted body-colored side skirts, additional vent detailing on the bumpers and gloss black trimmings.
Interior upgrades are said to include two-tone “Oxford” leather seats, all-Ebony door and dash trims, and headliner, together with HST badging, aluminum pedals and Noble-plated paddle shift gear levers on the steering wheel.
