This here is the new QX30 Concept that acts as a precursor to Infiniti’s first-ever global compact crossover that will go on sale next year competing against the Mercedes GLA, BMW X1 and Audi Q3.

It’s directly related to Infiniti’s upcoming Q30 premium compact hatchback, with both cars sharing a modified version of the Mercedes-derived ‘MFA’ platform that underpins the German firm’s competing A-Class and GLA.

The jacked-up, five-door crossover is 4,430mm long, 1,815mm wide, with a height of 1,520mm. It offers a 30mm higher driving position than the Q30 hatchback, thanks to 192mm of ground clearance.

While it looks pretty good in concept form with its big 21-inch wheels shod in thick tires and heavily sculpted body, we’ll have to wait and see how much of this will translate into the production car.

According to Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director, “The QX30 Concept looks as capable as it is meant to be. The artistic touches we put in lift the crossover to another level from being just another utility vehicle.”

The basic lines of the interior should remain too, just don’t expect all those fancy materials, colors and futuristic screens and buttons to be present on the production car.

Infiniti said that the QX30 will be offered with a with a wide range of powertrains, both gasoline and diesel, without providing additional details, but we suspect that Mercedes’ 2.0-liter turbo petrol and 2.1-liter diesel units will be among those available.
