Next month’s New York International Auto Show will see Scion hosting the world premiere of the production iM and the newly announced iA.
We already know that the iM is the production iteration of the concept shown at the LA Auto Show last year and that it’s essentially, the North American version of the European market Toyota Auris compact hatchback with a Scion badge and nose.
What’s new and still mysterious is the iA, which Scion describes as, “a sedan designed to appeal to young people who need a little more practicality, but still want engaging styling and outstanding driving dynamics”.
There have been rumors floating around that the iA may be the Mazda2 sedan-based model that Toyota is preparing to add to its North American range of cars. Keishi Egawa, CEO of Mazda’s production plant and operations in Mexico, had said that Toyota’s model would feature a uniquely designed body while making use of the Mazda2’s Skyactive platform and gasoline engine.
“We’ve been eagerly waiting for this moment and are excited to introduce our new Scions in New York,” said Scion Group Vice President Doug Murtha. “Both the iM and the iA are tremendous additions to our line-up and will appeal to young people with different perspectives and needs. These cars represent the evolution of Scion and are kicking off a new wave of momentum for the brand.”
