In its current form, the Micra is one of the least desirable model’s in Nissan’s range, but the Japanese carmaker is hinting at a radical redesign with the Sway Concept in Geneva.
The 4,010mm long, 1,780mm wide and 1,385mm tall sub-compact model rides on a 2,570mm wheelbase, and incorporates Nissan’s bolder and swoopier new design language.
Nissan said that inspiration for the contemporary interior with the gliding wing shaped dashboard came from the IDx coupe study first revealed at the 2013 Tokyo motor show.
“We believe that the Sway continues our tradition of challenging the status quo in market segments by bringing something fresh, distinctive and striking, much as we did with Qashqai and Juke,” said the brand’s design Chief, Shiro Nakamura. “With this new concept car for Geneva, we are experimenting to see how Nissan might be able to bring fresh ideas to the compact hatchback segment.”
The next Micra is due for replacement sometime next year and will be designed and engineered primarily in Europe.
