While there’s still no word on how fast the 950 HP Ferrari LaFerrari is lapping the Nurburgring, we can still enjoy watching it kick out its rear end, together with his 599 GTO sibling.
Thanks to some patient work from ‘Ring car spotters, we get to see both the LaFerrari and the 599 GTO take to the track in what look like warm up laps – or just laps where the goal isn’t to be as fast and efficient as possible.
Drifting around a corner won’t get you to your destination any quicker, but it’ll sure look good, not to mention sound great, which is what you get when you bring a couple of V12 units to the woods.
What dawned on us is how brutal the LaFerrari accelerates once it puts its power down as it exists the corner. Even after the slide, as soon as the tires bite down, the car just darts forward as if Captain Picard just told it to “Make it so”.
Of course, at 661 HP, the 599 GTO is no slouch, especially on the track where it also weighs almost 100kg (220 lbs) less than the standard GTB.
Compared to the LaFerrari, the 599 GTO is about 4 seconds slower around the Fiorano test circuit, but just 1 second off the pace of the F12 Berlinetta – which has 730 HP.
