Five seconds isn’t a long time in everyday chores, but it’s an eternity on the track, so you’ll excuse our enthusiasm after learning that the new 911 GT3 RS is 5 seconds faster than the 911 GT3 around the ‘Ring!
With a Porsche-official lap time of 7 minutes and 20 seconds around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the just introduced 911 GT3 RS is not only faster than the plain GT3, but it’s the fastest-ever production 911 beating the 997-generation GT2 RS by four seconds.
It’s essentially a track-racer for the road taking all the best bits of the 911 GT3 to the next level. The RS is 10kg (22 pounds) lighter than the GT3, and at the same time, has 25hp and 81Nm (60 lb ft) more power from its bigger displacement 4.0-liter atmospheric flat-six that churns out 493hp (500PS) and 460Nm (338lb.ft) of torque.
A specially developed seven-speed dual-clutch transmission transfers power to the rear wheels, with Stuttgart quoting a 0-60mph time of 3.1 seconds (0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds) and a 1/4 mile run in 11.2 seconds.
It’s already available for order at a price of $175,900, not including a $995 destination charge, with the U.S. launch scheduled for early July.
