Nissan is hoping to give the Pulsar a more dynamic outlook on life with the help of the top of the range 1.6 liter DIG-T 190 HP turbocharged petrol engine.

Before we get further into it, Pulsar sales haven’t exactly been stellar, and the reason for that has never been the lack of a more powerful engine or a sporty version of the car in general.

The Pulsar lacks in both looks and image when compared to C-Segment leaders such as the Golf and the Focus, but with 190 HP and 240 Nm of torque, it’s no slouch.

One advantage of the EU6 1.6 DIG-T engine is its fuel consumption and emissions which aren’t bad (7.7l/100km, 134g/km CO2) considering the fact that it will get your Pulsar from 0 to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds. Of course, somehow the Golf GTI manages to do better with a more powerful engine and better performance – which do come at a higher price to be fair.

Nissan has also engineered a new chassis setup in order for you to enjoy the Pulsar even more than you may or may not have done before.

It consists of a re-tuned power steering setup, stiffer front spring and damper settings, additional body shell reinforcements, new rear dampers and wider 18″ wheels.

The styling features are designed to complement each of the three trim grades (Acenta, n-tec and Tekna), and they include bespoke alloy wheels (17″ standard on Acenta and n-tec, 18″ for Tekna). There’s also a sportier headlamp design and a chrome exhaust finisher at the rear.

Inside you’ll find distinctive white stitching on the three-spoke steering wheel and leather seats (for Tekna versions only).

With a starting price of £19,645, the Nissan Pulsar 1.6 DIG-T 190 is over £3,000 cheaper than a 182 PS 1.5T EcoBoost Ford Focus in the UK, which is slower by nearly a full second to 100km/h (62mph).
