What matters the most for customers of estate models is practicality and in this respect the all-new VW Passat Variant does not disappoint. It has the biggest boot in its class, it offers plenty of space for rear seat passengers and enough cabin spaces for their belongings.
Carbuyer says the base 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine with 150PS is the pick of the range, as the unit strikes the perfect balance between price, performance and economy. The six-speed manual gearbox is also recommended because it favors a lower fuel consumption and is cheaper to buy as well.
The Passat Variant was also found to be very good to drive, quiet and comfortable, but not quite as fun as the Mazda6 Tourer, for example. Overall, the Passat is described by Mat Watson as a brilliant estate car, which is all that matter for people in the market for such a model.
