And by that, we mean it might not catch on. In fact, this could end up being a sales disaster since the Leon was nowhere near as sought out as the Focus and the Octavia last year.

We mention the Focus and the Octavia because those are the Leon ST Cupra’s main rivals. Specifically, the Ford Focus ST Sportbreak and the Skoda Octavia RS Combi. And then, of course, there’s the VW Golf R Variant for those looking for a bit more muscle.

Still, the Leon Cupra 280 proved to be quite the Nurburgring champ, even though it was the hatchback version. That could be an interesting selling point – arguing that you’d be getting a car that’s better at putting its power down on the track than its rivals.

Bottom line, you’ve got a 280 PS compact family estate car, that looks rather good under the spotlight. It’ll also do 0-100km/h (62 mph) in 6 seconds flat and carry on to a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

This means it’s significantly faster than its Ford and Skoda rivals. SEAT is certainly going to pray on those numbers in an attempt to get people on board the Leon ST Cupra express.
