This here is a test mule of Skoda’s new mid-size SUV that will sit above the Yeti crossover when it lands in showrooms by late 2016.
Unsurprisingly, right under the prototype’s modified Yeti shell with visibly wider tracks and wheel-arches and an elongated body with longer rear doors and windows, you’ll find a version of the VW Group’s MQB structure, shared with the VW brand’s upcoming mid-size crossover loosely inspired by the Cross Blue and Cross Coupe concepts.
We may get the opportunity to see how Skoda envisions the styling of its SUV model through a concept car at an upcoming motor show – perhaps first in China, where Skoda plans to offer a locally built version.
It is believed that Skoda will sell the SUV in both five- and seven seat variants to compete against the likes of Hyundai’s popular Santa Fe.
The Czech carmaker will dip into the VW Group’s parts bin for powertrains offering a similar mix of diesel and petrol units coupled to both manual and dual-clutch transmissions to the latest Octavia. It will be available in front- and four-wheel drive forms.
