When the all-new Superb broke cover, they said it was “the best Skoda ever”. If the past is any indication, this might turn out to be one of the best family oriented mid-size sedans ever.
Believe it or not, the 2nd generation Superb (which came out back in 2008) pretty much redefined the term “luxury” in its segment. And yes, back then using ‘Skoda’ and ‘Luxury’ in the same sentence sounded more ridiculous than Nicolas Anelka not missing the crucial penalty kick that would have kept Chelsea’s season alive against Man United in the 2008 Champions League Final.
Of course he missed it and of course the Skoda Superb went on to be a huge hit among European buyers. OK, maybe not the most relevant of analogies but still, you can’t argue with facts.
In fact, you could hardly argue that the Passat’s cabin was superior in quality to the Superb’s in any way, while in terms of rear head room and leg room, it wasn’t even close. The Superb was by far the most comfortable car in its class.
So what of this all-new, 2015 iteration? It offers 39 mm more elbow room and head room up front as well as 69 mm elbow space for the passengers in the back, who get to also enjoy 157 mm of leg room.
To narrow it down, the new Superb has the room, the tech, the looks and the dynamics to tackle any and all challenges from the likes of the Passat, Mondeo, Insignia, Mazda6 and so on.
In fact, looking at these images, we can’t help but feel it can stand proud among other, even more expensive models, normally associated with the premium segment.
Gut feeling: Skoda Superb customers will feel the exact same way.
