If there’s one manufacturer who could use some “new blood” inserted in their car lineup, it has to be Subaru. Lucky for them, their new Levorg model has already proven itself on the Japanese market.
In fact, they sold 30,000 units in Japan in the past 7 months, with it already being acclaimed for “superb drivability and safety”. For an encore, Subaru decided to try Europe and see if the Levorg can help raise their brand status among so many other competitive brands, especially in this particular segment.
The Subaru Levorg will go on sale in Europe in autumn this year, with a 1.6 liter direct injection turbo boxer engine, offering its customers “driving pleasure”, “safety” and “versatility”.
To those still wondering where this car actually fits, just look at some of the C-Segment Estate cars that are currently being sold in Europe. Length-wise, the Levorg measures about the same as a Skoda Octavia Combi at 4,690mm. It also measures 1,780 mm in width and 1,485 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.
It will of course feature Subaru’s AWD system – which has always been one of their main selling points, especially with European customers.
Currently, there’s no reason to assume that the 1.6 liter turbocharged boxer engine will differ from the unit found inside the Japanese-spec version, which is good for 170 PS and 250 Nm (175 lb-ft) of torque. It’ll also average about 5.7 liters/100km, which isn’t bad at all, especially compared to the petrol boxer engines we’re normally used to.
The Japanese-spec Levorg also comes with a Start/Stop function, an SI-Drive mode selector (Sport) & (Intelligent) and a new generation Active Torque Split AWD system.
You also get LED headlights, EyeSight lane keeping assistance, interior and exterior ambient lighting, an electronic parking brake (with Hill Hold function), keyless entry, 4 USB ports (2 front, 2 rear), full automatic air conditioning with independent left and right temperature adjustment function and Satin plated door mirrors.
It’s pretty safe to assume that once they start selling it in Europe, you’ll be able to get all these features on your Euro-spec Levorg as well, once they work out the different trim levels.
What’s unclear at the moment is whether or not Europe is also getting the 300 HP, 400 Nm 2.0 liter DIT Turbo engine. But considering the fact that it would most likely result in a big price bump, Subaru may not be willing to play that hand just yet.
