A taxi firm from rural South West England is using a fleet of Nissan Leaf and e-NV200 electric vehicles and claims it saves more than €11,000 annually for each car.

C&C Taxis calculate each Nissan Leaf or e-NV200 from its fleet saves the company €11,374 (£8,500) per year on fuel alone. Since the company owns seven electric cars, it saves €79,618 a year in fuel bills.

The St. Austell-based taxi company bought its first Nissan Leaf just over 18 months ago to see how an electric vehicle would cope with the high-mileage demands of private hire work. The savings were consistent, which is why the company bought five more Nissan Leafs and has just taken delivery of its first Nissan e-NV200 Combi.

C&C Taxis is a member of the Nissan e4Business program, which helps small and medium size businesses across Europe to keep their costs as low as possible by using Nissan EVs.

The taxi company has installed two quick chargers in the town, one at its office and one in an industrial estate, to allow the drivers to maximize their driving time. The chargers replenish the battery from zero to 80 percent in 30 minutes and have allowed one of the Nissan Leaf taxis on the fleet to rack up over 77,000 miles (123,000 km) in just 12 months.

“These cars work hard, averaging 40 taxi fares and 240 km (150 miles) per day with zero reliability issues. It just works!” says Nissan’s Director of Electric Vehicles, Jean Pierre Diernaz. You can learn more about the taxi company’s experience with Nissan EVs from the video that follows.
