Being the gigantic corporation that it is with its twelve brands that build everything from motorcycles to trucks, it’s not surprising that VW Group announced it will launch 50 new or refreshed models this year alone. Not 5, not 15, but 50!
The information comes from a VW Group press release in which it the company reviews its 2014 results and details plans for 2015. Among the 50 “new models, successors and upgrades,” the automaker lists the Porsche Boxster Spyder, a model that has been spotted undergoing tests last month.
Other new models that will go on sale this year include the new VW Touran, Audi Q7 and Audi A4, Porsche 911 (facelift), Skoda Superb and Seat Ibiza (facelift), as well as the new VW Caddy and the new Transporter T6 series from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
“We want to get better in every respect in 2015 and take the next step towards the top,” announced VW Group CEO Martin Winterkorn, who said e-mobility and digitization are priorities for the automaker. VW Group aims to offer all of its new vehicles with internet access by 2020, with the executive commenting that “as a Group, we already have the largest networked vehicle fleet on the road worldwide.”
Automated driving is also a priority for the VW Group. “We will be among the first to successfully market this technology with Audi and Volkswagen”, said Winterkorn.
