VW seems to have forgotten the meaning of the words “Limited Edition”, which are supposed to represent a car made in limited numbers with special, even unique features.
Nothing of the sort applies to the new U.S. market 2015 Passat Limited Edition, but it could be worse as on Thursday, VW presented the e-Golf Limited Edition which is actually a stripped out version of the previously base e-Golf SEL…
The Germans said that the Limited Edition Passat replaces the Wolfsburg and SE models from the current model year in its U.S. range adding $2,755 worth of extra equipment over the “S” automatic model for just $1,555 more.
According to VW, these are the standard features over the “S” model:
17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels; KESSY keyless access with push-button start; a rearview camera; V-tex leatherette seating surfaces; heatable front seats; a power eight-way driver’s seat with power lumbar; a touchscreen radio with SiriusXM Satellite Radio capability; 8-speaker sound system; a leather-wrapped steering wheel, parking brake, and shifter; chrome window surrounds; and front foglights.
The 2015 Passat Limited Edition has a starting price of $23,995, excluding delivery and handling, and comes equipped with a 170hp 1.8-liter TSI turbo gasoline engine and a standard six-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
