Cadillac is upping the game against the German competition with its new top-of-the-range CT6, unveiled today on the eve of the New York Auto Show.
In this form, at 204-inches (5,184mm) long, it’s designed to compete against the regular-wheelbase versions of the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Jaguar XJ, with GM promoting the CT6 as a driver’s car, starting with the reduced weight, and we quote:
“It is one of the world’s lightest and most agile full-size luxury performance sedans, with dimensions and spaciousness on par with BMW’s short-wheelbase 7-Series, but the approximate weight, agility and efficiency of the smaller Cadillac CTS – which is lighter than a BMW 5-Series. The CT6 is lighter than the BMW 5-Series, 6-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.”
One of the key features of the CT6 is the new aluminum-intensive architecture that incorporates 11 different materials to achieve both strength and reduce weight.
“We reinvented the approach to structural underpinnings in the quest to develop a unique formula for the prestige luxury performance sedan,” said de Nysschen. “Melding that new approach with the dynamics conveyed in our other award-winning rear-driven sedans – including V-Series – results in something that has been lost in the segment: the exhilaration of a true driver’s car.”
There are more surprised under the hood where Cadillac is offering a 265hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine along with a brand new 40hhp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, with a naturally aspirated 335hp 3.6-liter V6 sitting in between. All powerplants are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Sales of the CT6 are expected to begin in early 2016.
