Toyota hopes that the 2016 Mirai will be for fuel cell cars what the Prius was for hybrid vehicles: a trailblazer and a big commercial success.

But the world’s first mass-produced fuel cell vehicle has a very long way to go until it can be compared with the Prius. For now, the hydrogen refueling infrastructure is massively underdeveloped: Consumer Reports’ Gabe Shenhar says there are only 13 refueling stations across the United States.

However, Toyota promises their number will grow to 50 stations by 2017, but that’s still a ridiculously low number for a country with 320 million inhabitants.

Anyway, the 2016 Mirai was found “remarkably normal” to drive, with the reviewer describing it as quiet and unobtrusive. The ride is comfortable, the handling is decent, but power delivery is not as instant as in all-electric vehicles. Scroll down to find out what else Consumer Reports had to say about the Mirai from the video review.
