GM announced the all-new Buick Verano will make its world debut in Shanghai on April 19, on the eve of the Shanghai Auto Show (April 22-29).
Called “Wei Lang” on the Chinese market, the new Buick Verano promises to offer a “refreshing driving experience through its stylish and dynamic exterior, exquisite and comfortable interior, and precise and powerful performance,” according to the press release.
While Buick doesn’t say if this will be a China-only model, the car shown in the teaser photo looks very similar to the 2016 Buick Verano prototype spotted last year in Europe.
The automaker says the new Verano was inspired by the 2013 Buick Riviera concept car as well as the Buick Avenir study. Tailored according to the preferences of Chinese consumers, the new Verano will be offered alongside the new Excelle GT, which was launched earlier this year.
Speaking of the Excelle GT, it’s hard not to notice similarities between the two models, including the shape of the taillights and the side creases. Buick says the new Verano will serve as a strategic model in its bid for a “stronger presence in China’s mid-range vehicle segment.”
The new Verano will be more closely related to the next-generation Opel Astra than the upcoming Chevrolet Cruze, although all three models will share a common platform (GM’s global Delta II) and other hardware.
