Audi revealed the Prologue Allroad Concept ahead of its Shanghai Motor Show debut.
The concept itself is the third Prologue model showcased, after the Prologue coupe and the Prologue Avant Concept, featuring a 734hp plug-in petrol-electric hybrid powertrain under its high-riding Avant body.
As with all the previous Prologue Concepts, the Allroad gives a first taste of the new design language Audi is been working on lately. Based on the Prologue Avant, the Allroad sits 77mm higher and features a slightly more rugged appearance, thanks to the flared wheel arches and side sills.
Under the bonnet we find a twin turbo 4.0-litre TFSI V8 engine and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic gearbox which together produce 734hp and 900Nm (663lb-ft) of torque, all of them sent to a Quattro all-wheel drive system.
Audi claims that 0-62mph is being dealt in 3.5 seconds and we have no reason not to believe them with all that power, but then continues on claiming that the Prologue Avant’s fuel consumption is an unbelievable 2.4lt/100km (98 mpg US-117.7 mpg UK). CO2 emissions are 56 g/km. This hybrid powertrain will be used not only in future Audis but in Porsche’s next Cayenne and Bentley’s upcoming Bentayga SUV.
A 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery is mounted on the back and provides a purely electric range of 54km (33.6 miles). The battery can be charged via the traditional power socket or wirelessly as Audi is currently developing its own wireless charging technology for production vehicles.
