The New Zealand arm of BMW decided that this year’s April Fools needed a new kind of gag, one that was actually not a gag at all, although it sounded like one. It used the local Herald newspaper to print an ad saying the first person to come to a specific dealership and ask for Tom would get a new car in exchange for their old one.
They even made it clear in the newspaper that it was an April Fools thing, yet people still came and asked for Tom. Two women walked into the showroom, asked for Tom and were immediately handed the keys to their new BMW 1-Series.
Good going BMW NZ, you exceeded the industry standard for April Fools and actually managed to surprise us for a change.
