With the Veyron bowing out, whichever car ends up replacing it will have the weight of the entire world on its shoulders. Which is why it needs a lot of power.

According to some, Bugatti have settled on the Chiron moniker, which doesn’t sound half bad in English, but other dialects might find that it sounds rather funny. Regardless, this car will be no joke, as it’s expected to produce no fewer than 1,500 HP, leaving pretty much any hypercar in the dust, with the exception of the Koenigsegg Regera.

So even though we thought it was cool watching a LaFerrari out-accelerate the Veyron, Bugatti is making sure that’s not going to happen when the replacement car arrives.

Furthermore, peak torque is expected to be 1,106 lb-ft (1,500 Nm), which happens to be identical to what you got in a Veyron Super Sport – which is OK since the new model will be lighter and have 92% new or modified parts, allegedly.

As for its top speed, it’s projected at 288 mph (463 km/h), which sounds great, especially since we know that we can expect even faster versions of the car as the years go by. Will the Chiron eventually become the first production car to break the 500 km/h (310 mph) barrier? It just might.

Of course, getting off the line is equally important, and the number for that is 2.0 seconds flat. That’s faster than pretty much anything you could throw at it, even a Formula 1 car.

Unfortunately, it looks like Bugatti is making us wait until next year in order to see the Chiron, which is still fine by us. A legend should never be rushed into existence.
