The Arrizo M7 broke cover at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show in an official capacity, representing Chery‘s first MPV under the Arrizo brand.
As Chery points out, the Arrizo M7 is a “comfortable 7-seat city MPV”, aimed at family users. The 7 seat layout is a classic 2+3+2, which is normal for such a car that should not only meet customer demands as a “city MPV” but also as a long distance cruiser – since MPVs are usually for going on long trips.
The Chery Arrizo is hoping to dominate the MPV market while also further advancing the brand’s influence in other segments as well, such as the sedan market. Perhaps ‘dominate’ is too strong of a word though.
If we’re being honest, the looks of the Arrizo M7 MPV are a little 2005-ish, especially exterior-wise. The taillights are located pretty high up, which is an interesting design choice.
Inside, the dashboard layout is somewhat modern yet it’s not going to blow anybody away. The black over beige is a nice touch though, as is the LCD screen which nowadays is a must, unlike the tiny armrests.
We also like the two-tone seats, and the fact that there are plenty of storage spaces within the cabin.
In terms of performance (go ahead, laugh), the M7 will be available with two 4-cylinder petrol units, a 1.8 and a 2.0 liter one. The 1.8 unit is good for 132 HP and 172 Nm, while the 2.0 engine produces 139 HP and 182 Nm of peak torque, as both come with either a six-speed manual or a CVT transmission.
All joking aside, this isn’t a bad effort from Chery. Despite the fact that ‘Arrizo M7’ sounds like a mobile phone, it actually does look like it will get the job done as a proper Multi Purpose Vehicle.
