No, the pictured Mercedes-Benz V-Class isn’t happy to see you, though it will gladly accommodate up to four people featuring a fully equipped kitchen, wardrobe and beds.
What we have here are the new V-Class Marco Polo and its less fancy and simpler sibling, the Marco Polo Activity, which were introduced last year, but Mercedes has just dropped a large gallery of both models.
The two vans have the same footprint at 5,14mm long, 1,930mm wide and 1,980mm tall (16.9 x 6.3 x 6.5-ft), with the Marco Polo edition being the most luxurious featuring a passenger-car like dashboard and interior. It also offers a kitchenette with drawers and a cupboard, a fridge, a wardrobe positioned on the left side of the vehicle, a bench seat/bunk at the rear, swiveling front seats, a folding and sliding table, and a roof bed.
There are three four-cylinder diesel engines available for the Marco Polo, producing 136PS, 163PS and 190PS, combined with Merc’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
Mercedes calls the Marco Polo Activity a “recreational” van and as such, while it keeps the pop up roof and gets a three-seater bench seat that can be folded flat to form a bed with a sleeping area measuring 1.93 by 1.35 meters, it drops the kitchen, fridge, luxury dash and other amenities found in the Marco Polo.
The Activity offers several powertrain and even drive choices as it can be had with front-wheel (1.6-liter diesel with 88PS or 115PS), rear-wheel (2.1-liter diesel with 136PS, 163PS or 190PS) or all-wheel drive (same units as the RWD versions).
Unsurprisingly, the Marco Polo is the most expensive of the two camper vans beginning from €54,835 (equal to US$58,400) in Germany, while the Activity starts at €38,960 (US$41,500), with both prices including 19 percent tax (VAT).
