Despite Honda toning down the Civic Type R Concept for production, there’s no denying that car enthusiasts like ourselves still wanted to see it here in North America, and, well, our voices have been heard.
During the presentation of the Civic Coupe Concept that previews the 10th generation of Honda’s compact model in New York today, John Mendel, executive vice president at American Honda, not only confirmed the return of the Civic hatchback to the USA, but he also told us that we’re getting the Type R as well!
It will follow the launch of the Civic Sedan, Coupe, Si models and hatch, and should be identical to the European market Civic Type R presented in production form at the recent Geneva Motor Show packing a newly developed 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC pushing out 306hp (310PS).
One of its main rivals in the US will be the upcoming Ford Focus RS – see our visual comparison here.
